First HEZ Airdrop: Gitcoin Round 9 Metamask Donors

By Polygon Hermez

The first-ever airdrop of HEZ tokens will be distributed to Gitcoin Round 9 Metamask donors on Tuesday, the 4th of May.

Hermez will reward 10 HEZ to about 12,700 Gitcoin accounts that have made donations of $1 or more to fund Round 9.

At the time of publishing, 10 HEZ are worth approximately $65 USD. In this blog post, you’ll find more details about why we’ve chosen an airdrop to Gitcoin, which accounts qualify, how to claim it and next steps.

Why Airdropping to Gitcoin Donors?

Gitcoin is a very popular decentralised funding platform for open source projects, coordinating grants of over $18 million.

Thanks to these grants, many important projects have been able to consolidate as the backbone of Ethereum and DeFi, such as popular publications like The Defiant and the Prysm Eth 2.0 testnet.

Following our community-driven ethos, and our compromise to fund Ethereum public goods through our Proof-of-donation mechanism, we expect that this airdrop will bring together Gitcoin and Hermez communities, and can be the catalyst of Layer 2 adoption for many users.

Who Qualifies for the HEZ Airdrop?

Will qualify for the HEZ airdrop all the Ethereum addresses that:

  • Have donated at least $1 to Gitcoin Round 9.

AND

  • Have donated to Gitcoin Round 9 using Metamask web wallet.

Please, bear in mind that at the moment, the Hermez web wallet only supports Metamask wallet.

Users will be able to receive their airdrop on the 4th of May.

How to Claim the Airdrop?

The airdrop will consist of 10 HEZ, and all addresses will receive the same amount, regardless of their donation amount (as long as it’s at least $1).

Users will need to register on the Hermez Network with the same address that they used to donate to Gitcoin Round 9.

There’s no need to make a deposit in order to get the airdrop, only connect your Metamask with Hermez and click the “Sign” button when prompted.

What’s Next?

After receiving the airdrop, users will decide what to do with their HEZ tokens.

This is just the first HEZ airdrop, and it won’t be the last.

During the coming weeks, we’ll announce the full details of a second airdrop, with a token distribution that will take place over several weeks.

The full mechanics and qualifications for it will be announced soon, but we can anticipate that users that hold onto their first airdrop in the Hermez Network will instantly qualify for the second.

This is all for now. While you wait for the airdrop distribution, you can help the project by giving your feedback on Discord. We will be sharing updates related to the mainnet performance on Twitter and Telegram.
